We were appointed with Urban Strategies to develop the masterplan for the centre of the Rotherhithe Peninsula. The area has undergone massive physical change since the cessation of docking in 1970 and as a result has suffered a cataclysmic loss of heritage. The landscape design not only repairs and interprets in a modern way the history of the place but also builds on the rich ecological value of the existing water courses and water bodies by expanding the existing nature area. The new library designed by Piers Gough commands the plaza which in turn acts a viewing platform for the redesigned water basin. The design of the plaza seeks to present a metaphor of the historic use of the area which was the transportation of timber from Canada.
